Advice: Dressing for your shape (for women)

Pear Shape

Characterized by a slender neck, narrow shoulders, small bust, refined rib cage, shapely waist, generous lower hips, full thighs. You've got a fabulous waistline that is feminine and perfect for all those waist accentuating styles!

# Straight skirts should be tapered toward the hemline to avoid a square look.

# Pants should be made of flowing fabrics and drape loosely around the hips.

# Shoulder pads are your friend.

# Blouses and jackets should be either long or short, avoiding the hip.

# Enhance your upper body with semi-fitted or tailored tops.

# Softly gathered waistlines for skirts and trousers keep lines smooth and comfortable.

# Handbags should be worn above the hip area to avoid drawing attention to the hip area.

Examples of Pear Shaped celebrities:

Inverted Triangle

Inverted Triangle shaped women are usually quite top heavy compared to their lower half. Usually they are characterised by broader shoulders, larger bust and quite narrow hips and legs. You're known for having an athletic-looking body shape! Your frame is quite common among catwalk models. And often your type of shape comes with nice, lean legs :)

# Choose bottoms that flare to balance out the larger upper half of the body. Skirts and pants with a flare add the illusion of size.

# Pick tops that show off thin arms to flatter this body type. Sleeveless tops and flutter sleeve tops accomplish this goal.

# Wear darker colors on top and lighter colors on the bottom. This minimizes the top half. Lighter colors also create the illusion of a larger bottom half, and creates proportion.

# Buy tops that cover the hip area. This hides the wider waist that inverted triangle body types have. It also draws the attention towards the shapely and slim legs associated with an inverted triangle body type.

# Try tops that have less detail. Details draw attention to the top, and will make an inverted triangle's top even more noticeable.

Apple Body Type

Apple Body Types

It means you have a full chest, upper back with no or little waist definition. You might appear top heavy. And your bust and mid-riff might appear bigger than your hips. Also known as 'oval' and 'round'.

Another sign that can indicate you're an apple is that when you gain weight the fat gets easily stored around your upper half -- especially around your midsection. But, note that it does not necessarily mean you are overweight.

* Try out a floaty tee such as a tunic style top. It will skim around the waist.
* Try an empire waist shirt that begins under the bust to draw attention away from the stomach.
* Wear shirts that reach lower than your waist to reduce the chance of "muffin top"escaping from where your shirt meets your trousers. If you like your hips to look a little more in balance with your bust, try a shirt that meets the largest point of the hips.
* Choose a shirt with a slightly lower neckline to keep the eyes moving upwards. Pair that with a statement necklace for maximum effect.

The Hourglass

An hourglass body type has moderate to large bust and hips, and a small waist-generally 10 inches smaller than the bust and hips. The hourglass is the most highly desired body type for women due to its femininity. Dressing to flatter the hourglass body type focuses on proportion, since the top and bottom half balance out so well.

# Choose tops that define your small waist. Wrap tops, tie waist tops or belted tops are great examples of this.

# Show off a great bust. Scoop necks tops and V-neck tops are examples of tops that accomplish this for an hourglass body type.

# Try wearing single piece outfits. They don't break up the figure like a two piece outfit, which flatters an hourglass body type's curves.

# Wear straight leg or slightly flared bottoms. Baggy pants give the appearance of more roundness, so opt for the pants that are fitted at the top that help define and flatter the slim waist.

# Avoid necklines that hit high on the neck like turtlenecks. They draw attention away from the waist-the main asset of the hourglass.

# Select skirts that hit right above the knee or lower. While shorter skirts draw attention away from the waist, the longer lengths show off legs while still accentuating the waist area on an hourglass body type.

Petite

No real description needed for this one. If you are petite, you know it, haha!

# Look for proportional clothes. Don't settle for jackets that are too long in the sleeves or make your shoulders look big. Let tops land where they're supposed to, preferably at waist level. Purchase structured clothes or clothes with seaming at the waist to emphasize your waist.

# Find a good tailor so your clothes fit your body shape. Many petite people need not only their pants hemmed, but the sleeves of their tops and jackets taken up as well.

# Show off your legs. Choose skirts that hit above the knee to make your legs look longer. Avoid calf-length or ankle-length skirts that make you look shorter than you are. Mini-skirts are okay, depending on your age, your comfort level and your body shape.

# Purchase straight-legged pants. Tapered pants look awful no matter what your body type is, and boot cut or flared pants make petite women look shorter than they are. Get your pants properly hemmed so the hems brush the tops of your shoes.

# Heals! Heals! Heals!
